Keeping House Cleaning Current and Fun
Housework can be challenging and downright frustrating at times. One of the biggest challenges associated with cleaning is the fact that it is mundane and repetitive. No matter how well you tidy up an area, it will inevitably return to a state of disarray. No matter how well you maintain any area of your home, you will have to do the job again. This can overwhelm some households, especially in a day and age where all able-bodied members of the family work at least one job outside of the home.
One of the most important house cleaning strategies is having a plan. If you feel like you have trouble with maintaining a tidy home, or if you feel like certain areas are fine while others are neglected, then creating a systematic approach to cleaning can help you to stay on track. Divide cleaning tasks up over the course of a month, and create a calendar which includes the task and the name of the person responsible for doing it. Assign tasks to your children, so that they learn the value of participating as part of the family in caring for the living areas.
Another way to improve your overall house cleaning efforts is to make use of interesting cleaning tools. This does not mean that you need to buy a bunch of fancy gadgets. Rather, get creative in finding materials in the home that can be recycled, in order to save money and time. There are some easy, common-sense items that are always handy, and very useful. Old toothbrushes, for example, make great mini-scrub brushes. They are perfect for cleaning the grooves of grouted tile, for cleaning tight edges of appliances, or for scrubbing small spots behind sinks. Children love helping, and using a toothbrush to scrub can be a lot of fun. Just make sure that you explain not to use the same toothbrush for mouth and cleaning.
Use old socks to create cleaning gloves. Every home has an assortment of unmatched socks, and most frugal parents hate to throw the unmatched socks away. Using as gloves, the socks can be used for dusting fans, wiping down edges of bathtubs and shower stalls, wiping countertops, or scrubbing an area of the floor. Additionally, socks can be used to wipe down fridge doors or cupboard fronts. Put the kids to work dusting the bookshelves, while you take care of delicate knick knack areas. Putting a fun twist on a boring job can make the work more fun.
